Designed by Samuel McIntire (1751-1811), one of the earliest and most influential architects in the United States, the Hawkes House had been commissioned but never lived in by Elias Hasket and Elizabeth Derby.
Narbonne House

The Narbonne House was built in 1675 for butcher Thomas Ives. Named after Sarah Narbonne, whose grandfather Jonathan Andrews purchased the house in 1780. Sarah was born in the Narbonne house, and lived there for her entire life.

Pedrick Store House

Moved from Marblehead, originally built by Thomas Pedrick in 1770. During the Revolution, Pedrick commissioned privateers to capture British merchant vessels, and probably stored captured cargo in his store house.

It was used by the U.S. Customs Service to hold cargo for merchants until they were able to pay the duties on their goods. Cargo came into Salem in barrels, crates, bags, and chests.

used as a storage facility for scales and other equipment required to weigh cargo goods on ships. The scales were never used inside the building, but were carted and moved to the wharf and assembled alongside a vessel that had just returned.
St. Joseph Hall

By the 20th century, the western end of Derby Street had become the heart of the Polish Community in Salem. The St. Joseph Society, a fraternal society, built this headquarters in 1909.

The term “West India Goods Store” was used in Salem as a generic term for a retail shop selling items from all over the world, not just the Caribbean. Captain Henry Prince (1764-1846) built this structure in the early 1800s.
